ترقّی‌گرایان آمریکا اغلب مشتاقند که دولت رفاه اروپایی را در مقام استدلالی در دفاع از حکومت بزرگ و نامحدود، به‌ویژه در بحث مراقبت‌های بهداشتی، تبلیغ کنند. آنها به کشورهای اروپایی، اغلب کشورهای سوسیال‌دموکراتیک نوردیک، با مراقبت‌های بهداشتی همگانی، نظام آموزشی دولتی، شبکهٔ ایمنی اجتماعی سخاوتمندانه، و مردمان شادی که در آنجا زندگی می‌کنند، همچون الگویی خوب می‌نگرند.این شیوهٔ استدلال، زمانی‌که نیوزویک اعلام کرد فنلاند بهترین کشور جهان برای زندگی است و سوئد و سوئیس پس از آن قرار دارند، تقویّت شد. و البته مردمان آن خوشحالند. به‌هرحال، در این کشورهای عالی، فقر وجود ندارد، مردم تحصیل‌کرده و فرهیخته‌اند و عموماً هیچ مشکلی در جهان ندارند، زیرا حکومت خیرخواه همیشه برای حلّ هر مشکلی حاضر است. کسان بسیاری کوشیده‌اند طلسم این افسانه را باطل کنند، ولی این افسانه همچنان پابرجاست. گمان نمی‌کنم بتوانم به این موضوع پایان دهم، ولی چیزهایی وجود دارد که باید دربارهٔ این آرمان‌شهر افسانه‌ای، «بهترین کشور جهان» _فنلاند_ دانست.

This ability to mix the public and the private, as well as the ability to use bots to engage with users has proved to be problematic. In early 2021, a database selling phone numbers pulled from Facebook was selling numbers for $20 per lookup. Similarly, security researchers found a network of deepfake bots on the platform that were generating images of people submitted by users to create non-consensual imagery, some of which involved children.
