Бинтуронги, их еще называют «кошачьи медведи», внесены в Красную книгу и имеют статус «Уязвимый», что делает рождение детёнышей особенно значимым событием для сохранения этого редкого вида.
В Новосибирском зоопарке бинтуронги содержатся с 2010 года.
