В 2023 году президент страны Абдельмаджид Теббун уже заявлял, что Алжир «больше никогда не будет пытаться стать членом организации», после того, как на саммите БРИКС в Йоханнесбурге (на котором в организацию вступили 6 новых членов) Алжиру было отказано в членстве без четких обоснований.
Несмотря на это, Алжир продолжит сотрудничать с Новым банком развития, в который он был принят в начале сентября.
