كان القائدان: عمر المختار، ومحمد عبدالكريم الخطابي يقاومان الاستعمار في فترة متقاربة، وكلاهما أبلى بلاء حسنا، وكانت حياتهما حافلة بالتضحية والبذل. غير أن الأول شاع ذكره في العالم العربي والإسلامي أكثر من الثاني حتى صار رمزا للمقاومة، وأنموذجا للبطولة عند الصغار والكبار؛ وذلك بسبب الفيلم الذي أنتجه مصطفى العقاد عام ١٩٨١ م . ولو أُنتج للخطابي فيلم كفيلم أسد الصحراء لكانت شهرته كعمر المختار وربما أكثر. فالإعلام لغة العصر .
