But it’s not that simple. In the U.S., for example, German immigrants in the Midwest mostly blended in and adopted American culture, though some traits stuck around—like being more supportive of government involvement than Anglo-Americans.

You still see that in the upper Midwest. In Europe, though, these groups may be related, but they’ve had distinct ethnic and cultural identities for thousands of years.

This misunderstanding is happening because in the U.S., most European diasporas have been crushed into a nondescript white paste. It hasn’t strongly discriminated between different White ethnicities for nearly 100 years, especially since the 1924 Immigration Act, which favored immigrants from Britain and, to a lesser extent, Germany.

This ties into a point I often make: White nationalism is a uniquely American idea that has spread to other English-speaking countries because of America’s global influence. It developed after World War II, during a liberal era, as a reaction to the civil rights movement—at a time when many White Americans were letting go of their distinct ethnic backgrounds.

Americans might see European ethnic distinctions as unimportant or divisive, to many people outside the U.S., these differences still matter culturally and historically. In Canada, they matter to French Canadians.

Leftists disparage all forms of white identity politics as white nationalist, but if you actually look at pre-WWII “White nationalist” movements, you will see they were actually very ethnocentric, and not pan-White despite the confusing language.

This includes both Anglo-American ethno-nationalism of the Klan, who feuded with the German American Bund over distinct ethnic identities, and the NSDAP’s German nationalism, who tied the concept of Aryan to the German ethnicity specifically.

Nordicism arose out of the British Empire at the height of its power. Cecil Rhodes and Madison Grant specifically believed in the supremacy of the Anglo-Saxon man, not necessarily the broader White man, despite referring to themselves as White.

The idea of “White” was deeply tied to the British and later American Anglo identity. So much that Madison Grant, in his second edition of Passing of the Great Race, released during the First World War, re-classified Germany from a Nordic nation to an inferior “Alpine” nation.

We know through genetic science that White peoples are objectively part of a racial family. It is not a social construct. Even the border peoples in the Mediterranean or Eastern Europe are still distinct from those non-Europeans next to them. Though distinct ethnocultural differences remain.

White nationalism as a movement or idea, is still inherently tied to the U.S.’s unique situation, going from a primarily Anglo nation, which is how “White” was defined, to a “melting pot” of European diasporas.

One of the reasons I prefer White solidarity to White nationalism is that, while I appreciate the American circumstance (you might even call it ethnogenesis), Canadians, Australians and Europeans have largely retained their ethnic distinctions.

Anglo-Canadians are mostly pure-blood British diaspora. French Canadians are likewise pure-blood Normans and broadly northwestern French, with some British in certain regions. This is important to French Canadians, and they can see and feel these differences. I am no exception.

It may seem petty to some, but if culture is a product of race and, further, ethnicity, then Canada won’t be Canada if you fill it with Poles. It’ll still be White, and comparatively a paradise on Earth, but it won’t be Canada. If people are not interchangeable cogs, that doesn’t stop at race. It applies to ethnicity too.

To circle back, I see White nationalism in Canada as a symptom of deracination, a consequence of liberal post-nationalism and the deliberate erasure of Canadian identity. In practice, it mirrors the western provinces’ wholesale adoption of red-state American culture, such as Alberta’s embrace of constitutional republicanism.

It’s another form of imported American identity. While cooperation among Whites globally is necessary for survival, Canada is not a melting pot of Whites—otherwise, the tension between Anglo and French Canadians wouldn’t persist. Though in the Western provinces, it is more so than the East. You tend to see more White nationalists in the West and the GTA, and ethnic nationalists in the rest of Canada, and the East.

I’m reminded of when I dropped into a X space last week, and the American white nationalists were telling a Canadian white nationalist from Alberta, that white Americans have no collective ethnic identity to rally behind, and they most emphasize race, while the Canadian in question was oblivious to his own ethnic origins, and his rhetoric attempting to mimic that phenomenon.

What makes the U.S. migration crisis so sinister is precisely that Hispanic people are not the worst case scenario. If it were limited in scale or mostly Criollos, it’d not be an issue, but they’re now nearly a quarter of the population.

Why does this matter? Because human beings are not fungible economic units or cogs on an excel spreadsheet, or machine parts. Ethnos creates ethos, the people themselves create culture. You can’t swap out adjacent peoples and expect to have the same culture or identity.

Who is an American more likely to get along with, an H1B Indian or a Hispanic? The problem is precisely that they’re both similar and distinct enough from Americans.

It’s not about the value of Central and South American cultures or ethnic groups but that American culture has, for the past 100 years, been shaped mainly by British and German diasporas. Changing that makeup signals a fundamental shift in American culture and values.

There’s a reason everybody loved Homelander and you’re not ready for it.
