Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2020 in Parliament on Saturday, February 1. The presentation of Budget is expected to begin at 11.00 am and is likely to continue till 1.00 pm. The Economic Survey will be released on January 31.
What to expect from Union Budget 2020?
• Income tax (I-T): The Centre may look to tinker with the income tax slabs.
• Relief in Long-term capital gains (LTCG): Tax on LTCG may be removed in order to improve investor sentiment and drive liquidity into the capital markets.
• Affordable housing: The government may increase the Rs 1.5 lakh tax exemption limit for affordable houses from current Rs 45 lakh or below to Rs 75 lakh this year.
Stock markets to be open on Budget day
The stock markets are generally closed on Saturdays and Sundays, however, it will be open for normal trading on the day of the presentation of the Budget, that is, February 1, which is a Saturday. Trading would be conducted during normal hours from 9 am to 3.30 pm. In 2015, stock exchanges were open for trading on February 28, Saturday, when the then finance minister Arun Jaitley had presented the Budget.
