N100 like CPU that can handle more HDDs
https://redd.it/1f53v1f
by @datahoardingmulti
I have a Synology Nas with an unencrypted 80tb volume. I also have some spare drives. I'd like to build a power efficient nas out of the drives I have plus some new, move data across and build the volume from scratch. I like n100 because od how efficient it is but looking at cwwk mobo it can only handle 6 drives while I'd need at least 8 to get enough space and that is with no extras I think (would need to have another look at what drives I have available).
Would you have any suggestion for something that fits the bill?
After moving the data over I'd likely keep this built on top of the Synology or might sell syno and build another custom one as I'm growing tired of it but energy efficiency is a priority for me.
Do I need n100 for transcoding? No I have another pc for that but just like the idea of the n100.
An alternative is putting something more powerful in to replace the i7-6700 or whatever it is I have running frigate at the moment but it has it's own powerful DC ups so that would open another can of worms.
Need assistance interpreting HDDScan output on 2 used drives I recently purchased. Should I keep or return?

What are good hard drives to get on eBay? just wondering

Just because I'm planning to maybe get another 4tb for gaming and also maybe for my Xbox series.
Used molex to sata on good drive, now the drive doesn’t spin up and pc won’t power on if the molex to sata is plugged in.

Not sure what happened, never encountered this problem before. I used molex to sata for a few sata drives plugged them in power turned on then off now won’t power on. Disconnected everything and put it back the way it was and plugged up the drives back to original sata power cable and now the drive wont work at all. Doesn’t show in bios either. Any ideas ? The drive and everything worked fine before I introduced the ide to sata splitter just trying to add new drives in.
How to manage JPG+RAW photos on Amazon Photos without the clutter?
https://redd.it/1f5jhol
by @datahoardingmulti
Hey everyone, I need some advice on organizing my photos on Amazon Photos.
My problem:
- I have both JPG and RAW files for my photos.
- When I upload both, I see every photo twice in Amazon Photos - once as JPG, once as RAW.
- This makes it hard to browse my photos without constantly seeing doubles.
What I've tried:
1. Uploading JPGs first, adding them to an album.
2. Then uploading RAW files separately.
This helps a bit because I can view just the JPGs in the album. But outside the album, it's still a mess.
What I wish I could do:
- Easily separate JPGs and RAWs in Amazon Photos.
- Browse only JPGs for casual viewing.
- Access RAWs when I need them for editing.
I've already used a script to separate JPG and RAW files on my computer. Now I just need a good way to manage them on Amazon Photos.
Any tips or tricks you use to handle this? I'd love to hear your ideas!
Shortage of x24 hard drives?
https://redd.it/1f5m2be
by @datahoardingmulti
Hello,
I notice a shortage of these drives just recently. Has something changed at Seagate?
I realize there are other brands and models and yes, I've used all of them. I'm just interested in the X24 currently.

Are there any external dual M.2 SSD RAID1 enclosures? I looked for a long time and couldn't find any. How comes those don't exist yet?
https://redd.it/1f5yd5k
by @datahoardingmulti
With M.2 SSDs now being cheaper per TB than SATA SSDs, how comes there is no proper external M.2 SSD enclosure with integrated RAID1 (mirroring)?
Basically, just a simple fast external SSD with automatic mirroring, because I like to have the security that a drive failure doesn’t mean I have to restore 4 TB from my cloud backup, swapping a broken drive is much quicker.
I'm generally surprised about anyone who can sleep with having an external drive that's not automatically mirrored somehow, because all drives eventually break, and something like an external dual-M.2 USB drive with integrated mirroring would be super small and portable, and offer good safety for the data.
I found a total of 1 product that fits this description, but it seems to be a no-name chinese company and this has relatively bad reviews on Amazon, the
“MAIWO NVMe RAID Enclosure 20Gbps USB3.2 GEN2x2, RAID 0/RAID 1/PM/Large, 8TB Capacity Tool Free Aluminum, Dual Bay RAID Enclosure for M.2 NVMe PCIe M-Key 2230/2242/2260/2280mm SSD”.
So that likely is not a good choice.
I have an equivalent of this as a SATA SSD version already from IcyBox (https://icybox.de/product/externe_speicherloesungen/IB-RD2253-C31), and that works well, but it really feels like a waste of performance to still buy SATA SSDs when M.2 NVMe SSDs cost just significantly less per TB, and are way, way faster.
Backup storage for large scale photo / video setup
https://redd.it/1f61if0
by @datahoardingmulti
TLDR: The current needs for storage is 46TBs, growing at 16TB / year. I would like to buy something that would serve me well for the next 5 years. What setup would you recommend?
Details:
I shoot a photos & videos as my primary hobby and my storage needs keep growing.
Critical Storage: 16TB on NVMEs, backed up to cloud, growing at 4-8TB / year.
Less Critical Storage: 30 TB on 3 external HDDs (16 TB drives), not backed up to cloud, growing at 8-10TB/year
Still have an old QNAP 469L with 4x4TB drives, but not actively using it anymore.
DVD digital copy quick and free download
https://redd.it/1f63jse
by @datahoardingmulti
Hello, I’m sure this question has been asked in many different forms, but I can’t find anything that meets my specific needs.
I have a dvd writer and want to copy the main movie part of several movies on DVD (no need for the menu, scene selection, etc.) just the movie itself into MP4.
I want to do this quickly and for free on a laptop with an AMD graphics processor (I think). I’m unsure of the concept of codec but want to have the easiest to play on any device, if that makes any sense.
Not gonna be super picky on a degradation in movie quality so long as it isn’t ridiculously noticeable.
On MKV, it said there was licensing software not allowing the download so I would assume I need some software to counter act that.
Thank you to any one who is willing to help in advance!
