Last Update:
I believe the mix-up here, with respect to Canada’s character and history, comes from the presumption by the Australian that Canada is similar to the United States in its origins.
This could not be further from the truth. The arguments for national socialism as a safeguard against liberalism are directed at the United States, not Canada. Canada’s foundation as a militarized anti-liberal state in both its British and French parts does not fit that framework, in addition to other considerations.
Australia was founded more recently, in keeping with the British version of Enlightenment liberal principles.
Canada, by contrast, was born when the Loyalists of the British Crown in the American Revolution and the Royalistes of the Ancien Régime fought against the Americans and the French Republic.
Our heritage as pre-liberal ethnic nationalists and traditionalists, with a communitarian culture and corporatist economy, provides all the inspiration we need. We do not need to adopt the principles of national socialism. Parallel ideas are here already.
