Два паруса из стали и стекловолокна высотой 37,5 метра обеспечили дополнительную тягу и повысили эффективность судна — Pyxis Ocean смогло экономить в среднем около трех тонн топлива в день. При самых оптимальных условиях экономия достигала 11 тонн топлива в сутки. И это при двух парусах, тогда как на серийных судах будут ставиться три паруса. Суточный расход топлива у обычных балкеров такого тоннажа — около 40 тонн. То есть паруса могут экономить до 25% топлива, одновременно повышая эффективность перевозок и снижая выбросы СО2.
