By popular demand, here's a helpful link explaining how to nail pronouncing this letter that is notoriously difficult to pronounce for Russian learners and is the star of the previous post with a funny song. I won't even try to explain it myself because one truly has to show it instead of writing it out, so read the article and watch the videos in it if you want to figure out the mighty Ы :)

🗓 #OTD in 1943, the Red Army liberated the capital of Soviet Ukraine, Kiev, from the Nazi invaders.

🕯 The city had been occupied by the enemy for 778 days. The invaders, particularly the SS units and Ukrainian nationalists showed no mercy to civilians, murdering women and children, as well as Jews, gypsies, communists and Soviet POWs. Ukrainian Polizei, mostly from the western occupied regions of Soviet Ukraine, together with the German executioners took part in the heinous crimes at Babi Yar. Ukrainian collaborators also participated in punitive actions in Byelorussia, including the burning of the village of Khatyn.

🎖 During heavy battles for Kiev, the Soviet officers and soldiers, fighting for the liberation of their Motherland, showed courage and heroism en masse. 65 Red Army units were awarded the honorary designation ‘Kiev.’ More than 17'500 servicemen were decorated with orders and medals, with 2'438 receiving the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for crossing the Dnieper and liberating Kiev.

The Red Army forces under the command of Nikolai Vatutin successfully carried out the Kiev Offensive in just 10 days.

It was a major milestone, one that the entire Soviet nation celebrated. The Nazis were well on the way to their defeat and demise.

In 1965, Kiev was awarded the honorary title of Hero City.

🌟 The historical military parade marking the 24th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution took place on Moscow’s Red Square on November 7, 1941.

The conditions for holding this parade were extremely challenging, if not dire, with Nazi invaders just several dozen kilometres from the capital.

Preparations for the parade were made in top secret.

The parade's public announcement came as late as in the evening of November 6.

❗️ The parade served as a demonstration of the power of the spirit, courage and resolve of Red Army fighters and commanders. It may have lasted just 25 minutes, but in terms of its moral impact this parade could be compared to a major military operation. In included 28,487 people, 140 artillery guns, 160 tanks and 232 vehicles.

Having marched through Red Square, the troops headed directly to the frontline to defend their Motherland and its capital. There were volunteers and military academy cadets from Moscow and the Moscow Region taking part in the parade. Many of them soon lost their lives while fighting in Moscow’s suburbs.

The feat by cadets from Podolsk holds a special place in history. For almost two weeks, they held on to their defence line, which helped slow down the German offensive against Moscow. The enemy failed to penetrate the city.

🔊 The entire world could tune in to listen to the parade’s radio broadcast, and foreign newspapers also covered it. For the Nazi troops, it came as a total surprise and undermined the enemy’s morale.

Hitler expected Moscow to fall by November 7 to be able to hold a parade of his own on Red Square. Furious, he ordered to bomb the event. However, not a single bomb fell in Moscow on that day, thanks to the selfless dedication of Soviet pilots and air defence units who downed dozens of German planes.

🛡 This historical parade came to symbolise resilience and the unbendable will of the Soviet nation, boosted the army morale, and inspired the country to fight, while helping consolidate allies in their fight against fascism. Until that point Wehrmacht had an undefeated battle record, but just one month later it suffered its first major defeat near Moscow with Hitler’s Blitzkrieg plan against the USSR ending in utter failure.

⚔️ To commemorate this event, in 2004, in accordance with a federal law, November 7 was designated as the Day of Russia’s Military Glory in honour of the 1941 military parade on Red Square.

On November 7, 1991, despite the fact that Yeltsin banned festive demonstrations in honor of the anniversary of the October Revolution, thousands of Soviet citizens took to the streets with red flags. The most massive protests took place in Moscow and Leningrad, which had already been renamed St. Petersburg by the fake democrats. In the capital, tens of thousands of people even managed to get into the closed off Red Square.

Today, the words of these ordinary Muscovites and Leningraders about the innumerable troubles that were in store for the working people under capitalism seem like a terrible prophecy. But they could not even imagine that in a few months their country would be erased from the world map, and the lives of millions of people would be destroyed.

Back in the USSR, everyone had the same Soviet meat grinder. It's kind of difficult to comprehend for a modern Western person, but everyone did, in fact, have exactly the same meat grinder.

According to his mother, it was Zelensky's favorite toy during his pre-school years.

This video requires no explanation at this point.

Oddly, the only person speaking Ukrainian is the woman desperately holding on to the car taking her loved one to slaughter, while everyone else speaks Russian. At the end, the woman filming curses them out, "Bitches, monsters, I hope you die", and the cop barks, "Have you read the constitution?", in Russian, directed to somebody off camera, also swearing in Russian.

Unbelievable.

Freedom and democracy in full effect in Odessa: the police pepper-sprayed a father, right next to his baby in a carriage, and dragged him away, leaving the baby alone on the street.

They also pepper-sprayed the guy walking his dog and took him, too, because, why not, another body at the front...

As a side note, everyone in this video speaks Russian.

Having liberated Berlin from the nazis, the Soviet authorities, in their usual fashion, didn't just take it upon themselves to feed the civilians of the destroyed city, but also to restore their water and sewer services, as well as metro and ambulances, reopen schools, hospitals, and reconnect residential buildings to the power grid.

Yeah, that's... not New York City on the left of the tweet, though. That's actually Moscow State University.

The inscription on the poster on the right, created by Belopolsky B. in
1954, showing students in front of the main university building overlooking the Moskva River, says, "Forward, friends, to the heights of knowledge, so that our people could be proud of us!"
