Линии междугородней связи стали открываться после ввода в строй в декабре 1898 г. четвертой в мире по длине на тот момент телефонной линии Санкт-Петербург — Москва. К 1 января 1905 г. в сетях телефонной связи использовалось 138 694 вёрст телефонных проводов и обслуживалось 59 613 абонентов. Для сравнения: в начале 1894 г. длина телефонных линий составляла всего 26 тысяч вёрст, то есть в пять раз меньше. К 1 января 1905 г. эксплуатировалось 10 междугородних и 1296 местных сетей.

You may recall that, back when Facebook started changing WhatsApp’s terms of service, a number of news outlets reported on, and even recommended, switching to Telegram. Pavel Durov even said that users should delete WhatsApp “unless you are cool with all of your photos and messages becoming public one day.” But Telegram can’t be described as a more-secure version of WhatsApp. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video message on Tuesday that Ukrainian forces "destroy the invaders wherever we can." The news also helped traders look past another report showing decades-high inflation and shake off some of the volatility from recent sessions. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' February Consumer Price Index (CPI) this week showed another surge in prices even before Russia escalated its attacks in Ukraine. The headline CPI — soaring 7.9% over last year — underscored the sticky inflationary pressures reverberating across the U.S. economy, with everything from groceries to rents and airline fares getting more expensive for everyday consumers. As the war in Ukraine rages, the messaging app Telegram has emerged as the go-to place for unfiltered live war updates for both Ukrainian refugees and increasingly isolated Russians alike. Telegram, which does little policing of its content, has also became a hub for Russian propaganda and misinformation. Many pro-Kremlin channels have become popular, alongside accounts of journalists and other independent observers.
