Ajahn Cattamalo is the Abbot of Muttodaya Forest Monastery, Germany. Born in Germany, he was ordained in 1988 in the Wat Nong Pa Pong tradition of Ajahn Chah in North-east Thailand. He spent 7 years in various monasteries throughout Thailand practicing and studying with different meditation teachers of the forest tradition. He then spent 13 years at Bodhinyana Monastery in Perth, Australia, during the last 5 years of which he was vice-abbot assisting Ajahn Brahm. Ajahn Cattamalo left Bodhinyana Monastery in 2008 for Germany to assist in the setting up of Muttodaya Forest Monastery.

It is a rare and precious opportunity to study the profound Madhyamika (Middle Way) philosophy with Geshe Losang Jampal, a highly respected Lharampa Geshe.
Under Geshe-la’s guidance, we will explore the teachings of Nagarjuna and his commentarial tradition, uncovering the meaning of emptiness (śūnyatā) — the ultimate nature of all phenomena, beyond extremes of existence and nonexistence.
Through this study, we learn that understanding emptiness is not merely an intellectual pursuit. It is a direct path to transforming the way we perceive ourselves and the world. By loosening our grasping at inherent existence, we begin to free the mind from ignorance and suffering.

We are pleased to announce that Khenpo Kunzang Dechen Rinpoche, one of our senior Palyul Khenpos, will visit Palyul Guru Lhakhang in New York City in November to bestow the Green Tara Empowerment and give teachings on Patrul Rinpoche's Aspiration to Generate Bodhicitta, Utterly Pure and Supreme, the weekend of November 22 and 23. In addition, on November 27, Thanksgiving Day, Khenpo will lead the puja of the Hundred Peaceful and Wrathful Deities (Karling Zhitro), dedicated to the turkeys killed for Thanksgiving and all beings that have passed on.
