The Arrangement of the Four Wheels of Dzogchen
November 29-30, 2025,  9am-12pm (PT)
With Chaphur Rinpoche On Zoom only
In the Bon tradition there are many texts on Dzogchen, and among them the Zhangzhung Nyengyud is one of the most renowned. The  very precious Zhangzhung Nyengyud lineage has been transmitted  without interruption  from  Tonpa Kuntu Zangpo/Dharmakaya to the Abbots and Lopons or Ponlobs of Bon monasteries including Menri Monastery. As a result,  the transmission of the Zhangzhung Nyengyud teachings continues uninterrupted to this day.
Dzogchen Zhangzhung Nyen Gyud (Tibetan: เฝžเฝ„เผ‹เฝžเฝดเฝ„เผ‹เฝฆเพ™เฝ“เผ‹เฝขเพ’เพฑเฝดเฝ‘เผ‹) has four major sections: 1)  Outer, the Viewpoint,  2) Inner, the  Guide  of Oral Instruction, 3) Secret, the  Direct Seeing of Awareness, and 4) Most Secret, the  Seeing of Ultimate Nature. Chaphur Rinpoche will be teaching from the third or Secret section which focuses on  the Direct Seeing of Awareness. It is referred to as  the  Arrangement of the Four Wheels of Dzogchen.  It contains:
1)  The Wheel of the Abiding Base.
2)  The Wheel of the Interdependent Connection of Realization and Delusion.
3)  The Wheel of the Channels, the Vital Points of the Body.
4)  The Wheel of the Time of the Bardo.
We are delighted that Chaphur Rinpoche will give us  a teaching on the Arrangement of the Four Wheels of Dzogchen which will strongly support us in deepening our Dzogchen practice.  Additionally, Professor Kurt Keutzer has translated an English version, which will be presented during the teaching. ๐€๐ฒ๐ฒ๐š ๐”๐ฉ๐ž๐ค๐ค๐ก๐š came to learn about the Dhamma via the Mahayana and Theravada traditions of Buddhism from 1986. She was ordained in Taiwan firstly as a Samaneri in 2003 and received higher ordination as a Bhikkhuni in 2005. She practised and served in this tradition in Singapore and Perth, Australia until March 2008. As Ayya was inclined towards strict Vinaya practices and meditation, she switched over to the Theravada tradition in 2009 after being accepted into the Sangha by Bhante Sujato, the then Abbot of Santi Forest Monastery in New South Wales. On learning the plight of the Theravada Bhikkhunis, she accepted the invitation from BSV and Bhante Jag to help in their vision of building a 4-fold forest monastery in Melbourne. Ayya is now the Senior Bhikkhuni of Newbury Buddhist Monastery there.

For thousands of years, Tibetan spiritual traditions have cultivated practices to offer spiritual support to the dying and to prepare for a peaceful and conscious death. The Bon teachings on death and dying are central to the Path of Liberation as they enable us to attain liberation at the time of death or choose a beneficial rebirth. The Bon teachings on death and dying also encompass ways to offer spiritual and compassionate support to the dying, to family and loved ones, and to those who are ill.
In this teaching, Tempa Lama will teach about the stages of the Bardo, and the mental, emotional and physical shifts that take place during the different Bardo stages. โ€˜Bardoโ€™ is a Tibetan word consisting of โ€œBarโ€ โ€“ the โ€œbetween stateโ€ where the consciousness has left this body and not yet taken another body; and โ€œDoโ€โ€“ the consciousness that is without the physical support of a body. Tempa Lama will provide practice instructions for each Bardo stage and explain how we can guide and assist the dying person during and after death. Based on the Tibetan Book of the Dead, we will use death itself as a basic practice to develop strength within ourselves and keep our hearts and mind free from fear and judgment.
๐ŸŸ Participants will learn about:

The mind can be likened to a factory producing both happiness and suffering. Yet, broad statements about the mindโ€”such as its containing virtue, non-virtue, concentration, and wisdomโ€”do not capture its subtle complexity. Each mental factor has distinct characteristics and functions that must be understood to cultivate awareness effectively. This lecture series will offer a detailed analysis of the functions and perceptions of the mind and its factors.

Students of Dzogchen are sometimes concerned that the teaching of emptiness may lead to nihilism, rather than its intended understanding of liberation. We all begin as naรฏve realists, believing fully in the inherent existence of what we perceive. The Nine Ways of Bรถn guide the practitioner progressivelyโ€”both intellectually and experientiallyโ€”towards deeper realisation, culminating in a clear, whole, and complete vision of reality.
This introductory course focuses mainly on the first two Ways, emphasising examination of everyday phenomena through dharma theory to reveal and analyse our habitual assumptions.
