Turkiye's CHP pushes to expand NATO into Gulf to confront Iran
Turkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has submitted a 28-page “Iran threat” report to NATO’s Parliamentary Assembly, calling for the inclusion of Gulf Arab states such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE into NATO as part of a broader strategy to counter Iran.

The report, presented by CHP Deputy Utku Cakirozer, frames Iran as the centerpiece of an “axis of turmoil” or "upheaval" — a coalition it says includes Russia, China, and North Korea. It also argues that Iran’s alignment with Russia in Europe poses a combined southern and eastern flank challenge to NATO.

In practical terms, the report emphasizes Turkiye’s role in NATO’s architecture against Iran, citing the AN/TPY-2 X-band radar in Kurecik, Malatya, just 500 km from Iranian territory. It calls for a deeper NATO presence in Iraq, an expanded Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, and formal security integration with Gulf Arab states.

It also urges maximum pressure on Tehran, including expanded sanctions, blocking drone and missile transfers to Russia, and preventing any nuclear cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. @red_irl
