وقتی پدیده ای را تبیین کرده ایم که بتوانیم "علت" ( یا دلیل) آن پدیده را تشخیص دهیم ، اما برخی اشخاص به جای آنکه در تبیین/توجیه یک پدیده ، به علت رخ دادن آن پدیده ، اشاره کنند؛ سعی می کنند با "نام گذاری" بر روی آن پدیده، چنین به ذهن مخاطب القا کنند که پدیده ی مذکور را تبیین/توجیه کرده و بنابراین فهمیده اند.
صرف نام گذاری بر روی یک پدیده، نشان دهنده ی فهم عمیق از آن پدیده نیست.
مثال1: شخص الف: چرا رییس جمهور با شرکت های خارجی قرارداد می بندد؟ شخص ب: چون او "غرب گرا" است.
"غرب گرایی" صرفا یک عنوان است و علت هیچ پدیده ای را بیان نمی کند.
مثال 2: پسر خانواده: چرا پدر این روزها، خشمگین و ناراحت است؟! دختر خانواده : چون او دچار "بحران میان سالی" است.
