اصطلاح نتیجه گرایانه در توصیف آن دسته از نظریه های اخلاق به کار می‌رود که درباره درستی و نادرستی عمل بر مبنای نیات شخص عامل ، بلکه بر اساس نتایج عمل داوری می‌کنند.
#فایده_گرایی مشهورترین قسم از اقسام نظریه های نتیجه گرایانه اخلاق است که #استوارت_میل ، نامدارترین هوادار آن بود. فایده‌گرایی بر این فرض مبتنی است که غایت قصوای هر قسم فعالیت انسانی ، سعادت یا شادکامی است. این دیدگاه به #لذت_گرایی نیز معروف است. آنکه به فایده‌گرایی قائل است ، خیر را هر آن چیزی تعریف می‌کند که موجب بیشترین سعادت کلی می‌شود. گاهی این اصل را اصل بیشترین سعادت یا اصلا فایده می‌خوانند. از نظر فایده گرایان در بین اعمال ، کار درست عملی است که بیشتر از سایر اعمال احتمال دارد موجب بیشترین سعادت - یا لاقل بیشترین تفاضل سعادت نسبت به شوربختی- برای بیشترین افراد شود.
