Отца Алексия обвиняли в антисоветской политической деятельности, которую он якобы проводил в губернии совместно с епископом Лаврентием.
Следователи предложили отцу Алексию свободу взамен на публичный отказ от священного сана и дачу ложных показаний против владыки Лаврентия. Получив категорический отказ, протоирей Алексий был зверски избит и расстрелян 6 ноября 1918 года.
В 2000 году расстрелянный новомученик Алексей Порфирьев был канонизирован Юбилейным Архиерейским собором Русской православной церкви.
Так и погибли они — праправнук и прапрадед, в один день 6 ноября. С разницей в 104 года.
