С 28 по 30 мая в Большом зале Российской академии наук прошло майское Общее собрание членов РАН. Одним из ключевых событий стали выборы новых членов Академии — ими стали 84 академика, 165 членов-корреспондентов и 39 иностранных членов Академии.
Во время собрания были представлены доклад президента о деятельности РАН, важнейшие научные достижения, а также заслушаны доклады руководителей региональных отделений РАН.
Собрание завершилось традиционной церемонией награждения: были вручены Большие золотые медали РАН имени М. В. Ломоносова и имени Н. И. Пирогова, а также золотые медали имени выдающихся учёных.
Лауреатами стали выдающиеся российские и зарубежные исследователи, внесшие значимый вклад в различные области науки — нейрохирургию, молекулярную биологию и другие.
