🚨📊 Trump the flip-flopper: Threatened tariffs on China ‘not sustainable’

After bragging about tariffs of up to 145% on China, Trump pivots on a dime and tells Fox Business they’re “not sustainable,” yet somehow also “could stand.”

👉 His message was clear: “But that’s what the number is; it’s probably not, you know; it could stand, but they forced me to do that.”

He also performed his favorite two-step: after threatening China, he pretended everything’s fine and was “optimistic” about meeting with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit later this month.

Not surprisingly, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—set to meet Chinese VP He Lifeng in Malaysia to prep the presidential meetup—was also oozing optimism: “I think that things have de-escalated.

➡️ Quick reminder: it was the US that tightened the screws on Chinese tech giants using American tech—a move China labeled “extremely malicious” in September, vowing to take “necessary measures” to protect its companies.

Congee is a type of rice porridge made by boiling rice in a large amount of water until the rice softens. In consistency, congee resembles a thick soup or a thin porridge.

In China, this dish is called "zhou" (粥, zhōu) and is a popular breakfast dish, as well as being considered a traditional dietary food for the sick and those recovering. In some Chinese cultures, porridge is served as a side dish or festive meal.

Common ingredients in the porridge include salted duck eggs, pickled tofu, mung beans, and meat offal (especially pork liver).

🇦🇷🇨🇳 Why Argentina won’t dump China despite Trump’s pressure

Washington wants China out of Argentina to gain leverage in its trade war with Beijing, the Wall Street Journal reports.

But can Argentina afford to decouple? Lets break it down👇

🔴 China-Argentina trade

🌏 China is Argentina's major trading partner with accumulated projects worth $14B in the South American nation. It's Argentina's major source of investment in key sectors such as energy, railroads, lithium, and mining

🌏 In 2024, bilateral trade between China and Argentina totaled $16.35B:

➡️ Argentina imports: electrical machinery and equipment, solar panels, automobiles and parts, mechanical appliances, organic chemicals

➡️ Argentina exports: meat, soybeans, oil seeds and oil, cereals, fish, inorganic chemicals and rare-earth compounds

🔴 Main Chinese projects in Argentina

🌏 Construction of two hydroelectric dams in Santa Cruz (on standby since 2020)

🌏 Contract to build Atucha III - Argentina’s fourth nuclear power plant

🌏 Project to extract lithium in Argentina's Salta province by China’s Ganfeng Lithium and Swiss-based Lithium Argentina

🌏 The Espacio Lejano Station, a Chinese deep space tracking and control station operated by the China National Space Administration

🔴 Even Trump supporter Milei sticks with China

🌏 Although Argentine President Javier Milei pledged to never trade with China and "communists", he made a U-turn in 2024:

➡️ called China "a very interesting trade partner" that "doesn't make any demands" in a September 2024 interview

➡️ traveled to China to attend the China-Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) Forum in October 2024

➡️ met with President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024

🔴 Limits to Milei's power

🌏 Argentina can block China's projects but it would be to its own detriment, Argentine economic experts say, as cited by the Buenos Aires Herald

🌏 Provincial governors will likely protect Chinese investments: rare earths and other resources belong to the provinces, not the national government led by Milei

🌏 Milei is bracing for the midterms on October 26: Trump has already promised to cut hefty aid to Argentina if he loses

🇨🇳🥇 Real number one: China beats the US in trade with Germany

📌 The United States has been dethroned as Germany’s largest trading partner, losing its spot to China amid the tariff onslaught unleashed by the White House upon most of the world.

🔴 During the first eight months of 2025, Germany’s trade with China reached €163.4 billion (about $190 billion) whereas the trade between Germany and the US during the same time period amounted to €162.8 billion ($188 billion), Reuters says, based on its own calculations.

🔴 Until this year, the US was Germany’s top trading partner for eight years straight.

🔴 This shift occurred as German exports to the United States plummeted due to new tariffs, while Chinese exports to Germany surged instead.

🔴 Meanwhile, the Germany economy is spiraling into a decline even as Berlin persists in its intent to refrain from buying cheap Russian energy - the origin of Germany’s now-gone prosperity.

🇺🇸🇨🇳🛒 China's $1 billion daily exports to the US demonstrate Xi Jinping's negotiating powerBloomberg

Despite the 55% US tariffs, China continues to export products: nearly $1 billion worth of goods are exported to the US daily, and volumes even increased in September. In the third quarter, exports exceeded $100 billion, supporting economic growth.

Shipments of electric bicycles, cables, copper cathodes, and goods through Shein and Temu increased. However, further tariff increases could reduce trade flow.
👇 China's total exports to the US fell to $320 billion – the level before the first trade war.

🇨🇳🇹🇼 China issues bounty for Taiwan PsyOps unit for 'separatism'

Chinese police offered rewards of $1,400 for information about 18 people it said were Taiwanese military psychological operations officers spreading "separatist" messages, a day after Taiwan pledged to boost its defenses.

The public security bureau in the Chinese city of Xiamen, which sits opposite Taiwan on the other side of the Taiwan Strait, said the 18 were core members of Taiwan military's "psychological warfare unit", and published their pictures, names and Taiwan identity card numbers.

"For a long time they plotted to incite separatist activities," the bureau said, adding there would be rewards of up to 10,000 yuan for tips leading to their arrest.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 Trump vows to reach a ‘fantastic deal’ with China

President Donald Trump said Monday that the US commands “great respect” from Beijing and that he will reach a “fantastic deal” with Chinese President Xi Jinping when the two leaders meet soon.

Trump’s remarks come after Beijing infuriated him by expanding export controls on rare earth products that are used in smartphones, fighter jets, electric vehicles and more.

When asked about China’s leverage, Trump said Beijing “threatened us with rare earths, and I threatened them with tariffs.” But he insisted his good relationship with Xi means they would work out ”a very fair deal.”
