Спустя шесть лет оно было переименовано в Центральный институт прогнозов, который в 1940-х годах обосновался в Большом Предтеченском переулке (тогда это была Большевистская улица с 1922 по 1992 гг.) в кирпичном здании Физико-географического института постройки начала 20 века.
В 1960-х годах здание института было частично встроено в новые корпуса Гидрометцентра, д. 13.
