Ранее Кухарук рассматривался в качестве кандидата на пост главы Чукотки (но от этой должности он якобы отказался, сочтя данный субъект "слишком депрессивным"), также его фамилию называли в качестве кандидата на пост главы Башкирии в случае отставки Радия Хабирова. Однако сейчас в качестве приоритетного обсуждается вариант с назначением Кухарука в ДФО.
