Город Наурская может получить название «Нерве», что в переводе с чеченского означает «север», следует из документов. Город Шелковское предложено назвать в честь реки Терек, на левом берегу которой он находится. А город Серноводское чеченские депутаты просят переименовать в Серноводск, поскольку на его территории есть много серных источников и работает курорт Серноводск-Кавказский.
