Глава партийной фракции в Госдуме Сергей Миронов сообщил об этом на пресс-подходе 25 мая. Он подчеркнул, что губернатору Валерию Лимаренко уже направлено соответствующее письмо.
Как сообщает «ДумаТВ», фракция «Справедливая Россия — За правду» предложила сменить название региона на Русские острова. Миронов считает, что это остудит Японию, которая регулярно заявляет о территориальных претензиях на Южные Курилы.
Соответствующее письмо отправлено губернатору Сахалинской области Валерию Лимаренко и председателю заксобрания (вероятно, имеется в виду спикер областной Думы Андрей Хапочкин). В документе предлагается воспользоваться правом субъекта на смену названия и инициировать внесение поправки в Конституцию — назвать Сахалинскую область Русскими островами.
