"Издательство З.И. Гржебина" было основано в Петрограде в 1919 г. В 1920 г. Гржебин заключил договор с Госиздатом на выпуск книг за границей, и издательство было перенесено в Стокгольм, в 1921 г. - в Берлин, но владелец получил отказ в выкупе готовых тиражей. Издания не нашли активного сбыта за рубежом, т.к. были напечатаны в "новой" орфографии, которую в эмиграции не признавали. Пытаясь продолжать свое дело, в 1922-1923 гг. издательство выпустило 225 книг на русском языке, но в 1923 г. претерпело полный финансовый крах.
