Adolf Hitler's Sense of Humor:
The U-Boat Resurrection Theory
It is said -- often by the very humorous English -- that the "Germans have no sense of humor".
This trope, however, is based on an exaggeration of Prussian Protestant military culture which fails to account for the fact that Hitler was neither Prussian nor Protestant. While he was a military man, he was also much more than that before he ever joined any military unit.
Adolf Hitler was Catholic by religious confession, Austrian by nationality and Bavarian by heritage. All these elements comes through in how he expressed his style of humor: flattering sarcasm, free of dirt and vulgarity, with a perpetually escalating narrative of ridiculousness.
"Typisch Byrisch" as the Bavarians would say about themselves.
