Last Update:
for those who don't know: homestuck is currently owned by viz media, so they own and are responsible for maintaining the website homestuck has been hosted on. we already knew they didn't give a shit about homestuck when, after flash died, they replaced all the flash segments in homestuck with shitty low quality embedded youtube videos of them. this was a piss-poor way to experience homestuck, so you would hope that they would at least replace the flash segments when ruffle became widely used, but they didn't. at some point, some fans got together than created the UHC, a desktop application that's basically its own browser that allows you to experience homestuck exactly as it was when it was released, as well as archiving basically all official (and a lot of unofficial) homestuck content. it was a labor of love, and widely shared as basically the only way to experience homestuck in its original state, especially after viz media let the homestuck website completely die (it's no longer functional at all, there's no way they don't know about it at this point, they just don't give a shit).
anyways, hussie (the creator of homestuck) has been fighting the UHC over control of the project, and officially forced them to take it down as of yesterday. from what I can tell, hussie supported the project, they just wanted complete control ((which was impossible to do because UHC is an open source project under the gnu public license)). the homestuck team has their own fork of the project, which they might decide to fix up and release and become everyone's savior, who knows.
