در سال ۱۹۲۸ جان فون نیومن دانشمند مجارستانی در طی مقاله ای با روش ریاضی به ارتباطات منطقی بین دو فرد که تصمیمات آنها بر روی دیگری هم تاثیر میگذارد، پرداخت. بعدها فون نیومن به ایالات متحده مهاجرت کرد و در ادامه کار خود کتاب عظیم Theory of Games and Economic Behavior
را نوشت و نظریه بازی را بنیان نهاد.
در این کتاب او ثابت کرد برای هر بازی دو نفره "مجموع صفر" که پس از چند مرحله پایان می‌یابد، برای هر بازیکن استراتژی وجود دارد که می‌تواند باخت خود را به حداقل برساند. این قضیه به قضیه mininax معروف است. فون نیومن از بزرگترین دانشمندان قرن بیستم است و دامنه کارش از انفورماتیک تا نظریه بازی و مکانیک کوانتوم گسترده است. #نوابغ_علم
