HUNGARY (Part 2) 🇭🇺
(Part 1)

Even though Hungary was Hitler's ally in WWII, the Soviet Union sent food to save the people of Hungary from famine and assisted with rebuilding the infrastructure, after losing 140,000 of its own soldiers while liberating it.

ROMANIA (Part 2) 🇷🇴
(Part 1)

Even though Romania was Germany's ally until fairly late in the war, the USSR did not take revenge on it's former enemy, instead helping rebuild Romania, true to its usual fashion.

In this episode of "Ukraine of the brain," the National Navy Seal Museum celebrated the 250th birthday of the US Navy by publishing a lovely birthday card featuring the Russian warship "Varyag".

Using photos of Russian equipment to celebrate something US military related is turning into a tradition at this point, and this ket approves.

Speaking of this particular warship that was chosen for a birthday card for the US Navy and immediately identified as the Russian cruiser Mikhail Kutuzov, it was built mid-20th century and had served in the Soviet and, later, Russian Black Sea Fleet for almost seventy years, after which it was decommissioned and towed from Sevastopol to Novorossiysk in August of 2001, where it currently serves as a museum ship.

There's a bit of irony in the recent appearance of Russian warships on birthday cards for the US Navy's 250th birthday, because the very existence of the USA in its current form is, in fact, owing in part to the Russian warships sent by a Russian tsar in 1863 to help Abraham Lincoln, when nobody else did.

Watch this condensed version of the lecture given by American historian Webster Tarpley in Washington, DC, in 2013, on the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Russian navy squadrons to New York City and San Francisco to assist the Union against the Confederacy in the fall of 1863.

From my childhood memories.

My maternal grandparents always had a bag of dried bread slices hanging on a hook in the ceiling in their summer kitchen to keep the mice away. This was because my mother's mother survived, but her parents, little brother, and other members of the extended family died from the famine. My grandmother didn't want to talk about it, but when she was asked, I remember her crying a lot while telling the whole story in details and what was happening to the bodies of her beloved ones because of the famine. 😭

In my childhood, which was around the middle of the collapse of the USSR, bread was so delicious that when I was given some money and asked to go and buy a loaf of bread, by the time I got back home from the store, 1/5 of the round loaf had been gone :) And for helping my dad clean up the garage and wash the car, he would give me a treat right there in the garage - a large bread heel from a round loaf, with the crust, generously rubbed with some garlic, and the cut side, covered with a thin layer of fragrant lard. M-m-m m-m-m 🙃 Have you ever tasted it? When you come to our country for a visit, try, it's yummy!

So, happy World Bread Day to everyone 'cause bread is the staff of life!

2️⃣🦇 BATS celebrates the two-year anniversary!

🧁🎉 Today we are marking 2 years since the inception of the channel.

We want to thank all the subscribers of @BeornAndTheShieldmaiden and all members of the BATS chat.

As promised a year ago, we kept standing up for collective memory and pointing out present similarities to the historical manifestations of fascism and the interests that are driving the monster, then and now.

This past year, the world has entered into a new, sharper phase of the World Liberation War, and we, from our tiny corner are reporting, analysing and documenting.

And once again, the coming year looks to be no less eventful than the previous one, with all of us standing our ground together. Glad you're here!

VISTULA-ODER OPERATION 🇵🇱

Having already lost millions of soldiers, the Red Army had to keep going in order to liberate Europe from nazism. As such, to drive the nazis out of Poland, the Vistula-Oder Operation, during which the Wehrmacht lost thirty-five divisions in twenty days, was carried out.

🇱🇻 "Stupidity and Shame"

Latvia has deported a 75-year-old poetess who passed the language exam

The Russian Ludmila Mežinš passed the exam but did not betray her principles. The questionnaire included the question:

"Do you agree that the demolition of the monument to the liberators of Riga is justified?".

The poetess, a laureate of various awards for children's books, answered "no".

As a result, 75-year-old Ludmila Mežinš and her husband were deported from Latvia, where they had lived all their lives.

"Russian people are being deported, and why? Because they say what they think?", said Ludmila.

The situation is indeed telling:

The Latvian authorities check not only "language proficiency" but also loyalty to the Russophobic ideology.

If you have not condemned the "Soviet occupation," not denounced Russia and the SMO, not called Crimea "Ukrainian," then out you go with your belongings.

And so they plan to deport more than 800 Russians there.
