Священник РПЦ Александр Ильяшенко в беседе с «Абзацем» объяснил, почему Церковь считает, что питомцу следует давать кличку, а не имя человека:
«…У каждого человека есть святой покровитель, который [молится перед Богом за] владельца определённого имени. Некоторые знают об этом благодаря тому, что отмечают именины. Называя человеческими именами животных, покровителей, конечно, не обидишь. Но религиозное чувство верующего это может задеть. Подобное просто говорит об отсутствии духовной культуры».
