В 2018 году ДГТУ с привлечением своих специалистов реконструировал площадь Гагарина. Выполнена разуклонка, сделана ливневая канализация. Посажен газон, который растёт до сих пор. Летом на газоне сидят люди под деревьями. Газон сделан ниже уровня тротуара. Деревья и газон регулярно поливают.

Летом здесь работает светомузыкальный фонтан.
