Саранску досталась красная лиса с тремя стрелами на серебряном фоне - символ наших мест, богатых пушниной.
8 июня 1781 года императрица Екатерина II утвердила герб официально. Несколько изменений было с тех пор, но в наше время герб снова напоминает оригинал XVIII века. С юбилеем, Саранская лиса!
