Основное отличие от самоходной гаубицы "Мальва" с арт частью 2А65 при одинаковом калибре 152 мм и одинаковой длине ствола в 47 клб - это объём зарядной каморы 2А36 - 27 литров. У 2А65 она 16 литров.

Применение более мощного заряда даёт возможность увеличить дальность стрельбы управляемым снарядом "Краснополь-Д" до 50 км.
