زندان فوق‌امنیتی فرانکلند در منطقه براساید دورهام بریتانیا با بحران نفوذ اسلام‌گرایان افراطی روبه‌رو شده است.
طبق گزارش رسانه‌های انگلیسی، گسترش نفوذ باندهای تندرو در این زندان باعث شده برخی از زندانیان برای حفظ جان خود مجبور به جدایی و انتقال به بخش‌های خاصی از زندان شوند.
این موضوع نگرانی‌هایی جدی درباره امنیت داخلی زندان و کنترل گروه‌های تندرو به‌وجود آورده است.
یکی از وکلای برجسته کیفری بریتانیا در گفت‌وگو با روزنامه تایمز تأکید کرده که زندانیانی که از پذیرش اسلام امتناع می‌ورزند، مورد تهدید قرار می‌گیرند. او هشدار داده که تعداد اعضای باندهای مسلمان در زندان به حدی افزایش یافته که مدیریت و کنترل آنان بسیار دشوار شده است.
کارشناسان امنیتی نیز این وضعیت را تهدیدی برای نظم زندان و حقوق فردی زندانیان می‌دانند.
گسترش نفوذ اسلام‌گرایان افراطی در این زندان نه‌تنها موجب ایجاد فضای ترس و تهدید در میان زندانیان غیرمسلمان شده، بلکه به نوعی تقسیم‌بندی مذهبی و باندی نیز دامن زده است.
