محققان دانشگاه دارتموث روشی نوآورانه برای بهبود فرآیند جذب کربن در اقیانوس‌ها معرفی کرده‌اند که می‌تواند نقش مهمی در کاهش تغییرات اقلیمی ایفا کند 🌍. این تیم با استفاده از گرد و غبار رس، کربن را به ذرات چسبناک تبدیل می‌کنند که توسط زئوپلانکتون‌ها مصرف می‌شود 🦠. پس از هضم، این موجودات ضایعات کربن‌دار را به اعماق اقیانوس منتقل می‌کنند 🌊، جایی که کربن می‌تواند برای هزاران سال حبس شود ⏳. این روش به بهبود عملکرد "پمپ زیستی" اقیانوس کمک می‌کند و سرعت ذخیره‌سازی کربن را افزایش می‌دهد ⚡. تیم تحقیقاتی اکنون قصد دارد این روش را در اقیانوس آرام آزمایش کرده و شرایط بهینه برای ذخیره‌سازی کربن را شناسایی کند 🌎. این نوآوری می‌تواند به طور قابل توجهی به تلاش‌های جهانی برای مقابله با تغییرات اقلیمی کمک کند 🌱.
