☦️ In Defense of Origen

Origen's "self-castration" is often cited by some as a way to prove Christianity is degenerate, or supports degenerate behavior.

This claim comes from Eusebius' Historia Ecclesiastica. Eusebius' account is brief but contradictory.

1. Origen castrated himself when he was a young catechist.
2. Origen's superior, Bishop Demetrius, praised it.
3. Demetrius later uses Origen's castration against him.

We know the first is odd. Eusebius says that Origen did this because he was young, rash, immature. If that was the case, why is he in an authoritative position?

The second and third make no sense and actually debunk the claim altogether. If Demetrius praised it and that was that, perhaps Christianity was degenerate. But Demetrius used this castration claim against Origen and Eusebius records it as a "grave slander". If this was a positive action and true when Origen was a catechist, it could not have been seen as grave and slanderous.

In view of this, the regulator has cautioned investors not to rely on such investment tips / advice received through social media platforms. It has also said investors should exercise utmost caution while taking investment decisions while dealing in the securities market. "The inflation fire was already hot and now with war-driven inflation added to the mix, it will grow even hotter, setting off a scramble by the world’s central banks to pull back their stimulus earlier than expected," Chris Rupkey, chief economist at FWDBONDS, wrote in an email. "A spike in inflation rates has preceded economic recessions historically and this time prices have soared to levels that once again pose a threat to growth." Apparently upbeat developments in Russia's discussions with Ukraine helped at least temporarily send investors back into risk assets. Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko that there were "certain positive developments" occurring in the talks with Ukraine, according to a transcript of their meeting. Putin added that discussions were happening "almost on a daily basis." Again, in contrast to Facebook, Google and Twitter, Telegram's founder Pavel Durov runs his company in relative secrecy from Dubai. Sebi said data, emails and other documents are being retrieved from the seized devices and detailed investigation is in progress.
