در درون این توصیه، خودبه‌خود افزایش تعداد لایه‌ها هم نهفته است؛ چون ماسکهای یکبارمصرف رایج به‌طور کامل مانع عبور ویروس نمی‌شوند.
در توصیۀ CDC گفته شده اگر ماسک N95 زده‌اید ماسک یکبارمصرف روی آن نزنید. ماسک N95 معتبر به شکل مناسبی فیت می‌شود و ماسک یکبارمصرف روی آن نقشی برای فیت کردن آن ندارد.
