دانشگاه آزاد اسلامی با معرفی کامپیوتر کوانتومی ۳۰ کیوبیتی خود، گامی مهم در توسعه فناوری‌های پیشرفته برداشته است. این سیستم که بر اساس فناوری یون به دام افتاده طراحی شده، توانایی پردازش یک میلیارد حالت کوانتومی به‌طور همزمان را دارد و از جمله پیشرفته‌ترین پروژه‌های علمی منطقه محسوب می‌شود. طبق اعلام دانشگاه آزاد، این کامپیوتر قرار است برای رمزنگاری کوانتومی، شبیه‌سازی‌های علمی و بهینه‌سازی مسائل پیچیده مورد استفاده قرار گیرد. همچنین، محققان این دانشگاه در حال برنامه‌ریزی برای ارتقاء سیستم به ۱۰۸ کیوبیت تا سال ۱۴۰۷ هستند که می‌تواند ظرفیت پردازشی را به سطحی بی‌سابقه برساند. این دستاورد که حاصل همکاری متخصصان دانشگاه با مراکز تحقیقاتی داخلی و بین‌المللی است، می‌تواند مسیر تحقیقات در حوزه محاسبات کوانتومی و توسعه الگوریتم‌های پیشرفته را دگرگون کند.
