Did you know that there is a second "Washington Monument" buried in the ground adjacent to the one above ground? Could this be original architecture that was buried in the mud flood and then recreated after? The building of the current Washington Monument was stopped during the Civil War and completed after. This is evidenced by the change in color of the stones about half way up the monument. Different source for the stones. So many questions...... WJ
