Оказалось, что это же слово есть и в русском языке! Это слово караул.
Оно происходит от монгольского kara - смотреть, наблюдать, а agul - аффикс (кто знает монгольский, поправьте меня, может это аффикс, типа турецкого -çı?).
Потому что karagul означает наблюдатель или дежурный.
