🪰پژوهشگران دانشگاه آیووا ژنی را در مگس‌های میوه کشف کرده‌اند که حرکات آنتن ماده‌ها را تنظیم می‌کند و نقش مهمی در تشخیص صدای جفت نر دارد. این ژن در پشه‌ها نیز وجود دارد و با خاموش کردن آن می‌توان تعداد جفت‌گیری و در نتیجه رشد جمعیت پشه‌ها را کاهش داد، که می‌تواند به مهار بیماری‌های منتقل‌شونده توسط پشه‌ها کمک کند. این تحقیق نشان می‌دهد که آشنایی با نحوه شنوایی و جفت‌گیری مگس‌های میوه و پشه‌ها می‌تواند تأثیرات مهمی برای سلامت انسان داشته باشد.
