В войсках проводились мероприятия боевой подготовки: «Потребовалось научить личный состав быстро преодолевать водную преграду, смело идти за огневым валом артиллерии, плотно прижимаясь к разрывам своих снарядов».
Занятия с военнослужащими проводились с учетом нового издания Боевого устава пехоты (БУП) 1942 года. «В большинстве резервных частей изучение БУПа было организованно удовлетворительно и принесло реальные плоды в период боевых действий (…). Личный состав (…) неплохо усвоил положения нового устава и успешно применял их на поле боя».
