Нравится, что в книге рассказывают не просто о жанре и как он зарождался, а что было вокруг него. Причем тут Ямайка, политика, черные эмигранты, социальный кризис в Америке, уличные банды и бедность Бронкса, танцы, граффити. Без всего этого не было хип-хопа, который есть сейчас. Тогда молодежь столкнулась с отсутствием возможностей и начала создавать свою культуру — через диджиков, рэперов, брейкданс и арт.
Местами книжка может показаться затянутой, но это все равно того стоит: внутри есть истории от первоисточников жанра, описаны ключевые фигуры типа Afrika Bambaataa, DJ Kool Herc и Ice Cube, а если надоест читать про хип-хоп, то также содержательно можно узнать про танцы или уличное искусство.
