السيّد حسين التستريّ [المتوفى ١٢٩١هـ] كان من العلماء الأعلام ومن العدول الأخيار، وهو أحد مراجع الدين، كان ملازماً للشيخ الأعظم الأنصاريّ [المتوفى ١٢٨١هـ] واستحكمت بينهما مودة وعلاقة وثيقة.
ينقل العلّامة الأوردباديّ [المتوفى ١٣٨٠هـ] عن أحد كتب العالم المتبحر الميرزا حسين النوريّ [المتوفى ١٣٢٠هـ] قصة عن السيّد حسين التستريّ وهي:
أنه قدم كربلاء المشرّفة في صحبة شيخ الطائفة الأنصاريّ، قال: ولم يكن عندي شيء من المال، فيمّمتُ حضرة أبي الفضل، فشكوت له حالي بعد الزيارة والصلاة، وأنا ماثل أمام ضريحه القدسيّ. قال: فبينا أنا في الكلام معه، رأيت شيئاً منفصلاً عن الشبّاك مقبلاً إليّ، فنظرت إليه وإذا هي «شامية»، فشكرت الله سبحانه. والشامي: اسم بعض النقود الرائجة ذلك اليوم وقيمتها قرانين ونصفاً.
