Картина Шишкина «Дама перед зеркалом» всплыла на пражском аукционе лишь в 2006 году. При стартовой цене в 7,5 млн. чешских крон работа была приобретена за 8,9 млн. крон (около 400 тысяч долларов). Предполагается, что картина поступила в одну из частных коллекций в России.
Полотно хранилось в семье Шишкиных, эмигрировавших после Октябрьской революции в Финляндию. В 30-х годах ХIX века картина была продана зятем художника консулу Чехословакии.
Картина вернулась на родину, а публика узнала еще одну сторону таланта знаменитого художника, гораздо менее известную, чем многочисленные пейзажи, по части которых Шишкину не было равных.
