The son of one of the most famous conservative journalists in the United States, Alex Jones, is preparing to convert to Orthodoxy.

Rex Jones became a catechumen - today in the USA, as well as in many parishes in Russia, the ancient practice is being revived, in which a person who decides to accept Orthodoxy undergoes a long stage of catechumen: learning the basics of the Faith. Rex wants to be baptized with the name Vladimir - in honor of our Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke.

Orthodoxy is increasingly attracting the traditionally minded part of American society. Over the past decade, we can talk about a qualitative leap: people are moving from various Protestant denominations, both individually and as entire communities.

And that's great.

Telegram | DID YOU KNOW?

Date: |

You may recall that, back when Facebook started changing WhatsApp’s terms of service, a number of news outlets reported on, and even recommended, switching to Telegram. Pavel Durov even said that users should delete WhatsApp “unless you are cool with all of your photos and messages becoming public one day.” But Telegram can’t be described as a more-secure version of WhatsApp. A Russian Telegram channel with over 700,000 followers is spreading disinformation about Russia's invasion of Ukraine under the guise of providing "objective information" and fact-checking fake news. Its influence extends beyond the platform, with major Russian publications, government officials, and journalists citing the page's posts. What distinguishes the app from competitors is its use of what's known as channels: Public or private feeds of photos and videos that can be set up by one person or an organization. The channels have become popular with on-the-ground journalists, aid workers and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who broadcasts on a Telegram channel. The channels can be followed by an unlimited number of people. Unlike Facebook, Twitter and other popular social networks, there is no advertising on Telegram and the flow of information is not driven by an algorithm. The original Telegram channel has expanded into a web of accounts for different locations, including specific pages made for individual Russian cities. There's also an English-language website, which states it is owned by the people who run the Telegram channels.
