آقای رسول‌اف با اشاره به توقیف پاسپورتش «برای هفتمین بار» و تفتیش منزل خود توسط ماموران امنیتی، نوشته: «اگر فکر می‌کنید مرزهای ایران در دست شماست در خواب خوشی هستید. اگر ایران جغرافیایی زیر چکمه‌های استبداد دینی شما رنج می‌کشد ایران فرهنگی در ذهن مشترک میلیون‌ها ایرانی که از ظلم و توحش شما ناچار به ترک ایران شدند زنده است و هیچ قدرتی نمی‌تواند اراده‌ی خود را به آن تحمیل کند. از امروز من ساکن ایران فرهنگی‌ام.»

این کارگردان ایرانی که قرار است آخرین فیلمش «دانه‌های انجیر مقدس» به زودی در بخش مسابقه جشنواره کن به نمایش در بیاید، در متنی که در صفحه اینستاگرام خود منتشر کرده همچنین از کسانی که به او «برای خروج از مرز و رسیدن به نقطه‌ای امن» کمک کرده‌اند، تشکر کرده است.
