Он задался вопросом, почему в России есть востоковеды, но нет «западоведов». Причину этого Дугин видит в том, что в России «привыкли считать Восток объектом, а вот Запад — субъектом». Философ считает такую установку, которая превращает страну «в вечно догоняющую Запад», «ущербной».
«Поэтому западоведение сегодня необходимо. Может быть, термин «вестернология» более благозвучен. Но смысл тот же. Мы должны изучать Запад как объект. Симметрично Востоку. А субъектом должны быть мы сами. Русским субъектом»
