"وإنَّ الأخوين في الله إذا كان أحدهما أعلى مقامًا من الآخر رُفع الآخر معه إلى مقامه، وإنَّه يلتحق به كما تلتحق الذرية بالأبوين والأهل بعضهم ببعض؛ لأن الأُخوة إذا اكتُسبت في الله لم تكن دون أخوة الولادة.
قال أبو طالب المكي -رحمه الله-: لا تصح المحبة في الله -عزّ وجلّ- إلا بما شرط فيها من الرحمة في الاجتماع، والخلطة عند الافتراق بظهور النصيحة، واجتناب الغيبة، وتمام الوفاء، ووجود الأنس، وفقد الجفاء، وارتفاع الوحشة، ووجد الانبساط، وزوال الاحتشام، وكان الفضيل يقول: إذا وقعت الغِيبة ارتفعت الأخوة."
