پروژه مدل 401 Sierra خواستار طراحی تمیز دو هواپیمای نمایشگر فناوری ساخت کم هزینه بود. توسط یک خلبان پرواز می کند، با یک توربوفن نیرو می گیرد و در ارتفاعات متوسط کار می کند. این دو خودرو کپی کربنی از یکدیگر هستند. Scaled از فرآیندهای توسعه چابک داخلی خود برای طراحی و ساخت همزمان این دو هواپیمای نمایشی استفاده کرد و طراحی دیجیتالی Scaled و روش‌های ساخت پیشرفته را تأیید کرد. با ساخت سریع دو وسیله نقلیه مشابه، Scaled توانست راه حل های طراحی و ساخت اولین هواپیما را بلافاصله در هواپیمای دوم پیاده کند.

توسعه تنها 24 ماه از مفهوم اولیه برای دستیابی به اولین پرواز برای مدل 401s طول کشید - وسیله نقلیه 1 برای اولین بار در 11 اکتبر 2017 پرواز کرد و شش ماه پس از آن، Vehicle 2 اولین پرواز خود را در 11 آوریل 2018 انجام داد‌.
