این رای‌گیری آزمایشی و عمدتا حزبی شامگاه پنجشنبه انجام شد و ۵۱ سناتور به انتصاب پیت هگست به عنوان وزیر دفاع ایالات متحده رای موافق، و ۴۹ سناتور به او رای مخالف دادند.
